High Chair

On the weekends David and Cal and I go up to my parents house for a nice Sunday dinner with the family. I love this time at my parents house because there is always someone willing to hold/feed/change/bathe Calvin. It is wonderful. Being that he is my parents' first grandchild, and my siblings' first nephew, there is never any lack of attention. I know Cal likes it and so does yours truly. Today we came over for dinner as usual with the family and we find that my parents have bought a brand new little high chair for Cal. I was nervous that he would protest against being strapped down in a chair, but to my surprise, he didn't seem to mind at all. In fact, it seemed like he really liked being at the table with everyone! He was sitting up all by himself like a big kid. (I apologize for the poor picture quality. It was taken on a cell phone because I left my digital camera at home.) They also bought another bib for him. But this is a bib unlike any I've ever seen. It has sleeves... yes, SLEEVES. Over the last few weeks, we've noticed that Cal doesn't only dislike bibs, he does whatever he can possibly do to escape that tight velcro trap. I thought it was clever that they made a bib that has sleeves on it so he has a harder time ripping it off. Although it looks absolutely ridiculous, it works magically. He showed no signs of some mad struggle to remove the bib.  Hooray for Calvin! And three cheers for bibs with sleeves! Hoorah, Hoorah, Hoorah!!

Well, in other news, the premiere of the 6th and LAST season of "Lost" is starting on Tuesday this week. We've been hopelessly hooked on this show since the first season. David didn't believe me when I told him at first. But one episode, and he was hooked. I'm not sure how they kept it going for so long. For those of you who are familiar with the show's storyline, you know what I'm talking about (and for those who aren't familiar with it, I'm not about to spoil it for you. Go watch it yourself! Heh Heh Heh).

So, in honor of this, the last season of such a captivating show, David and I are hosting a LOST in LOST Party. That's right. And I am so excited to be putting this together. I have very little time, I admit that I kind of had this idea really last minute, but we told a few fellow fanatics and they seemed ecstatic! So here we go. I'll try to take tons of pictures of the happenings, and of course, tons of pictures of Cal for our family.

P.S. I have to apologize again for those who've been waiting for videos of Cal "crawling". He is now mobile and I've had to find new places for things that he's now finding he can make a mess of. *Sigh* Until then.

Made.

I've been looking for a good baby sling for what seems like a million years! I've looked at a few online but I can't seem to justify spending $30 on a silly little baby sling! It would help me a bunch throughout my day especially when I'm doing simple errands or house work. Anyway. The point is, that I've had a bunch of leftover fabric that I was hoping would go to some cool pillows or apartment decor, but has been collecting dust in my closet. I finally pulled it out of the deep abyss and drew up what I wanted my sling to look like.

... and TA DA!

I made this in one hour exactly. And I am so proud of myself.

Weekend from Hell

Okay, it wasn't that bad, but it's getting there.

↑ (Our bathtub after being cleaned, and filling up with poo water.. Lovely.) ↑

For starters, I can't use my bathroom in our apartment. Why, you ask? Oh, because it's been spilling poo water for the past day and a half. Yes, Poo Water. Don't worry, it's been coming up from our bathtub too. No showering for now.  It all started yesterday in the morning when David and I were still in bed when we heard loud gurgling sounds coming from the bathroom. At our inspection, we noticed the water was rising and falling in the toilet bowl and still gurgling every once and a while. Suddenly, we hear the water rushing and brown, dirty water was spilling everywhere! We ended up calling the on-call maintenance guy for the weekend to come fix it. It took an hour and a half, maybe two hours before he had finished. All of the dirty water in the tub, drained.. but ALL OVER Cal's bath toys and washcloths. Gross. Like, seriously, the maintenance guy couldn't move a few baby toys from the poo water all over it. Ew. Well, after he fixed the problem temporarily, everything working fine and all. This morning, a familiar gurgle sound emerged from the bathroom. I go in only to see my bathtub is half full with poo water again and the toilet too. Oyyyy Vey. All my hard work cleaning up that bathroom all gone down the drain... or come UP from the drain, rather. I literally, had to clean poo off the walls.

Needless to say, David and I have decided to do whatever we can to get out of our lease here. After having dead mice in our walls, water pouring in from our ceiling, cockroaches that STILL come out, we've had enough.

In other news, Cal got some more shots today, including his H1N1 flu shot. Apparently, Utah County will be hitting its 3rd big wave of the Swine Flu. No bueno. No harm in being prepared. Especially for the dreaded Swine Flu. It's hard watching Little Cal get stabbed with all those needles, though. What a trooper. I think the needles are easy to handle. It's the feverish, achey, sick feeling that comes from those shots that gets me every time. Yuck!

Horrible.

Last night, poor Cal was in so much pain from his little toof that I felt like I should get up right away and run across the street to Walmart and get him some Motrin. Well, I open the door snow is falling by the shovel fulls outside. OYYYY. They were the big snowflakes that when they fly by they feel like they've got their own gravitational pull. Well, I am scared to death of driving in the snow. I get terribly anxious, so I decided to literally run across the street. I wish I had known the snow was coming or else I would tried to get some Motrin earlier. But the poor baby was screaming alllllll day.

Sad.

Although good did come out of my trip across the street. I found Dr. Seuss' "Green Eggs & Ham" for $5.00! I came in from that storm with snow clinging to all parts of me. I must have looked like the Abominable Snowman.

Attempting to make some baby food! Wish me luck.

Oh yeah, Cal's still teething and we forgot to buy more Motrin for the little guy. Wish me luck with that too..

It's All Just A Learning Experience.

Ladies and Gentlemen!

I would like to announce that Baby Cal now has a third tooth! It's finally broken through after what seems like hours of fussing and crying. Poor little guy (Wait a minute.. what about me? What about his poor little mom?!).

Oh yeah, and he's been backing himself up under the couch a lot lately, too. (I can't help but laugh at his cries of frustration..) Right now, I've decided I'm no longer going to look up what milestones he should be keeping up with at his age or whatever "They" say. I suppose it's always good to be a little advanced, but you know, I figure the more milestones he accomplishes, the further away he is from being my little Baby Cal. So, I'll just let him figure out those milestones by himself and he can stay my baby for a little longer.

Going to try something new.

Calvin loves foooood!
I've only been giving him the usual for right now. I have been slow in introducing new things into his menu (Allergies!) but I really want to try something new. He's a huge fan of yellow & orange veggies (carrots, squash, sweet potato, etc.) My mom has tons of it in her freezer and helps me out by boiling it all together with organic chicken, blending it all up with a little bit of the broth, and done.

Other than that, Cal hasn't really branched out very much outside of oatmeal, bananas and the aforementioned veggies.
Anyway, I figure it's probably safe now to venture into giving him different foods. Some people have given me a hard time for introducing him to such bland foods as rice cereal. Come on, now.
I got online and searched around a little bit for different ideas of what to give a little baby. I want to stay away from store bought food seeing as it's all probably full of thickening agents, stripped of all its nutrients, and all preservatives. Thanks. But no thanks. And in some of the blogs I creep on, I found an article at Honest Fare specifically about making baby food!

SCORE!

I found recipes for things like:
1. Baked Cinnamon Apples with Prunes (and yogurt, optional)
2. Zucchini Potato
3. Peas with Mint
4. Baked Apple and Carrot

I love the idea! And she stored it in ice trays/muffin tins in the freezer so she could thaw them as she needed them. Such a good idea. Anyway, when we go shopping tonight, I definitely want to try making some of these things and seeing how Cal reacts to them. Wee!!!

And here's the finished product. ↑↑↑

First!

Talking to David last night as we sat in our front room watching Oceans 13 and chompin' on muddy buddies, I asked if he'd been keeping up the family blog so our family elsewhere can see what we're up to and he replies "Nope. You're the blogger. You set up a blog."

So I did.

Nothing special, but I know writing about my family just once a week on my other blog just isn't enough. So here you go, a behind the scenes look at our family.
